How Alaskans Can Support Marriage Equality in Washingtonon July 10th, 2012 at 11:45 am
Remember those savvy organizers who flew up from Seattle to help during the last three weeks of the One Anchorage campaign? Well, now we Alaskans have an opportunity to return the favor by phone-banking to build support for the freedom to marry in Washington State and we don’t even have to get on a plane!
On August 13, Pride Foundation is hosting an Alaska Virtual Phone Bank Night, which means you can volunteer from the comfort of your own home from anywhere in Alaska. The phone bank will take place from 4:30 to 7:00 PM Alaska Standard Time. Start times are flexible. Training is provided, although we know many of you are experts by now!
While most opinion polls show that most Americans support marriage equality, we still need to prove that we can win at the ballot box. Washington State is uniquely poised to be the first to affirm marriage equality through a vote of the people. If the referendum passes, Washington will stand as the first foothold for marriage equality in the west and it will have an impact that will reverberate throughout the region and the rest of the country.
If you want to support our friends in Washington and join the Alaska Virtual Phone Bank, please contact Christina via email to volunteer on August 13 or any other time.
