Scholarships and Education
Last summer, our scholarship volunteers and staff met to review goals and future directions for the program, and the idea of providing our scholars with a paid internship was discussed as a possible new program to implement. The thought was to pair scholars with organizations that have gotten a Pride Foundation grant. We loved the idea and decided then and there to look into the feasibility of introducing this project within the next three to five years.
Well, we were so inspired by the project that we got a little ahead of ourselves; we just completed the inaugural run of the Pride Foundation Fellowship Program!

This past Saturday over 450 people congratulated and cheered on our 2009 Pride Foundation scholars at Pride Foundation’s annual scholarship breakfast. It was such a tremendous morning and it was particularly meaningful to me because this was my first scholarship breakfast as the Scholarship Program Director.

On Saturday May 8th, I approached the
Port of Seattle building, graced with a banner over the front door that read: “Pride Foundation Scholarships”. Then, as I took the stairs up toward the entrance, I noticed I was following several people walking quickly toward the door. “Good morning,” I said enthusiastically, “I love this day!” Of course these potential scholars, who are mostly young people dragged from their beds at what must seem like the crack of dawn and nervous about interviews offer me back blank expressions at best.
