Grant to address cyber-bullying

In a year full of triumphs and challenges in the LGBTQ community, Pride Foundation closed out 2010 with the approval of eight Washington grants including a $10,000 grant for King County Sexual Assault Resource Center’s (KCSARC) Cyber Safety Project. In 2011, LGBTQ organizations will no doubt continue their efforts to make it better for our community. These grants are just a few examples of how Pride Foundation puts our donor dollars to work for LGBTQ equality.

We are thrilled to welcome five new Regional Development Organizers to the Pride Foundation staff team!

From Anchorage to Bozeman, to Eugene to Idaho Falls – Pride Foundation is deeply committed to building and sustaining local leaders and organizations to increase visibility for LGBTQ people across the greater Northwest. Over this past year, staff, volunteers and donors have been working together to determine how to best leverage and increase Pride Foundation’s prior work in regional and rural communities. Welcome Amy White!

Welcome to our new Director of Community Strategies and Engagement: Amy White. Amy will be working with our regional staff and volunteers to continue to grow the work we do to support leaders and advocates and non-profit organizations throughout the region. She will also utilize her evaluation skills to also measure our impact, so we will know what type of a difference we are making in every community.

thank you ad bentonThis week Pride Foundation will begin running ads in newswpapers around Washington State, thanking voters for approving Referendum 71 and keeping the State’s domestic partnership law.  I really like that we are starting 2010 by thanking our neighbors for supporting LGBT equality.

We decided to place these ads in community papers where the LGBT community isn’t always as visible.

Pride Foundation/Black Hills Grants Announced

Four nonprofit organizations have just been selected to receive funding from Pride Foundation/Black Hills. Together these organizations will receive $14,000 to strengthen their local  LGBTQ community. Local volunteers vetted the 6 requests for funding and narrowed the recipients down to these four. All but Planned Parenthood have received Pride Foundation funding before.

The 2009 Pride Foundation/Black Hills grantees are:

Planned Parenthood of the Greater Northwest (Olympia, WA)  $2,000 to fund the Thurston County Teen Council which engages youth to decrease bullying and inspires them to become allies to their LGBTQ peers, increasing safety and respect in schools. Youth who make up the Teen Council...

$300,000 in Scholarships Available

Scholar Poster 09-10Pride Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2010-11 school year. We anticipate awarding $300,000 in scholarships during this cycle. Along with our scholarship partner, the Greater Seattle Business Association, we offer 50 different scholarships, but have only one application to complete.
