Celebrating change makers in Alaska

Identity, Inc. board members recieve honors for the organization's work to advance and protect the rights of all Alaskans
Two Pride Foundation grantee organizations were among the heroes of constitutional rights honored by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Alaska at their annual Liberty Awards gala held in Anchorage on January 22nd. Since 1996, the ACLU of Alaska, Identity, Inc., and Planned Parenthood of Alaska (now an affiliate of Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest), have received a collective total of 14 grants from Pride Foundation and this year over 400 people gathered to recognize and applaud their commitment to social justice and equality.
In celebrating their 40th anniversary, Alaska’s ACLU affiliate wanted to honor 40 individuals and organizations that have worked to advance and protect the rights and liberties of all Alaskans, including Identity, Inc. which operates the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Anchorage and recently received a grant from Pride Foundation to help bring LGBTQ youth living in rural Alaska to their annual Pride Conference in Anchorage.

The ACLU's commitment to LGBTQ issues on display
“It was our sense that Identity was the leading organization protecting LGBT rights,” said Jeffrey Mittman, Executive Director of the ACLU of Alaska. “They’ve always been on the front lines so we really wanted to recognize their accomplishments.”
Planned Parenthood was honored for their commitment to protecting reproductive freedom as well as their work to help young men and women make informed choices about their sexuality.
