Seattle WA: Human Rights, Marriage Equality, and the Catholic Church
Hosted by Pride Foundation and the University of Washington Center for Human Rights, this workshop, facilitated by Father Joe Palacios (Ph.D. Sociology, UC Berkeley; M.A. and M. Div., St John’s Seminary, Camarillo, CA), is designed for individuals who are exploring what being Catholic means to them in the context of the debate about the human and civil rights of LGBTQ people, particularly marriage equality. The workshop will engage participants in the nuances of Catholic social justice teaching, the differences between civil and sacramental marriage, and their connections to broader human and civil rights principles in the American tradition.
This workshop is designed to help individuals work within their faith communities to build bridges in their congregations, so that
discussions about these issues can be had openly and comfortably.
