Kyle R

Kyle is a 2008 Pride Foundation scholar and is now studying Political Science with hopes of someday attending the Law School.  He is a youth advocate in the LGBT community, volunteering for American Friends Service Committee, Safe Schools Coalition, Lambert House and as the Washington State representative for GLSEN.

“In high school, and throughout my life, I lived in a sense of panic and of constant fear. Despite this, I am a survivor. I overcame an abusive home, a hostile learning environment and rejection from my peers at school. The most challenging experience I had to overcome was homelessness and self-advocating for a place to live.

Despite all the negative things that have happened to me in my life I have become a youth advocate for the LGBT and allied community and I feel passionately about creating safer schools and equality.  I am attending the University of Washington thanks to Pride and the LGBT community and I have decided to study politics and pre-law, possibly becoming a lawyer. I want to further the rights of the next generation. I would like to thank Pride Foundation’s donors, and the people who made the foundation possible. These scholarships support students such as myself who are committed to social justice and improving our society for future generations. You are making a difference. Not only in our lives, but in everyone we know and have the opportunity to interact with. On behalf of all those that have been impacted by your support, I thank you.”
