Tell Us
“Our community is one shaped by our tenacity
and resilience.”Here at Pride Foundation we measure our success by focusing and celebrating all the victories, large and small, that we know will culminate in full lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. Each one of these breakthroughs inspires us to work even harder.
Looking back over the past year I notice how
our community is shaped by our tenacity and
resilience. Even when the barriers seem insurmountable,
we push on. We know it is the right thing
to do and we know we will win in the end.
I saw this tenacity demonstrated in our scholars. Like Michael,
who at 19 years old was discharged from the Navy for being gay. He then
overcame homelessness and drug addiction to become a successful law school
graduate this year. I also see resiliency in the Montana Human Rights
Network, one of our grantees profiled in this report. The Network continues
to push day in and day out for LGBT equality in a state where you can
still be fired just for being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.
These acts of courage, activism or care by our scholars and grantees
were only possible because of our community’s incredible generosity. Ninety
percent of you renewed your support of Pride Foundation in 2008/09, even
as the economy was declining and uncertain. Whenever I asked you, our
donors, what motivated you to give you told me that your support was not
just about this year, or the next, but about achieving lasting change.
In other words, you’re in it for the long run—and so are we!
I am eager to share some more breakthrough stories from the year
with you. That is why we have changed the format of our Gratitude Report
from print-only to an enhanced presence on our web site. I invite you
to go to PrideFoundation.org today, so you can see and hear directly from
the people whose lives you are changing.
With Pride,
