Welcome Amy White!

Welcome to our new Director of Community Strategies and Engagement: Amy White. Amy will be working with our regional staff and volunteers to continue to grow the work we do to support leaders and advocates and non-profit organizations throughout the region. She will also utilize her evaluation skills to also measure our impact, so we will know what type of a difference we are making in every community.

Amy grew up in Sheridan, MT, population 700 and after moving from Montana to Minnesota, eventually graduated high school in Cheney, WA. Over the past few years, Amy has held a variety of leadership positions within the YMCA of Greater Seattle and has taken an active role in diversity and inclusion issues within the Greater Seattle community. Her last position was as the Operations and Program Director at the Downtown Seattle YMCA. She has expertise in organizational management, program design and evaluation, and fundraising. She is a founding member of the YMCA of the USA National GLBT Affinity Group and serves on the Seattle Steering Committee of the Human Rights Campaign.

One of Amy’s favorite volunteer experiences was working as “Sammy the Camel” for the Seattle Art Museum’s grand opening and on the weekend you will find her at estate and garage sales in search of the perfect vintage treasure.

$300,000 in Scholarships Available

Scholar Poster 09-10Pride Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2010-11 school year. We anticipate awarding $300,000 in scholarships during this cycle. Along with our scholarship partner, the Greater Seattle Business Association, we offer 50 different scholarships, but have only one application to complete.

New this year is our online application. Gone are the days of paper, as now students can create an account at PrideFoundationScholar.org and complete their application completely online. This makes the application more accessible and also decreases our administrative costs.

Find out who qualifies for a Pride Foundation scholarship here and read about our past scholars here.  People and companies interested in starting a scholarship at Pride Foundation can find more information here.

Help us spread the word by downloading a copy of the scholarship poster and displaying it at your school, community center, workplace or local bulletin board.

Change in Fall ‘09 Northwest Grant Cycle

See July 16 update below

In response to the effects of the current economy, we are temporarily changing our grants awards process and priorities for our Northwest Grants cycle. Instead of a general call for proposals, organizations will be invited to apply to this cycle based on 5 criteria: (1) LGBTQ focused organizations; (2) demonstrated history of service to and effective impact on the community; (3) organizational and financial stability; (4) prior funding relationship with Pride Foundation; and (5) the likeliness that a grant will have a potentially significant impact on the core operations of the organization. Invited organizations will be contacted by July 15.

We believe this is the best way to steward our donor’s dollars and also support bedrock services in the Northwest LGBTQ community. Additionally, we want to help save the time and energy of organizations, not eligible under the above criteria, planning to apply for funding. We know this may be disappointing news for many organizations which provide valuable services and support to the community. This change is temporary and only applies to our Northwest Granting Cycle. We’ll evaluate the situation in the fall and will update you by December 1 regarding future applications.

UPDATE: July 16, 2009- Organizations have been invited to apply for the Fall 2009 cycle.  If your organization has not been invited to apply then please check back in December for information on the Spring 2010 grant cycle.

Fall 2009 Northwest Grants FAQ

How will I know if my organization has been selected to apply?

Organizations will be notified via email by July 15th to let them know if they have been selected to apply for the Fall 2009 Northwest Grants Cycle.

What if my organization is not invited to apply?

We are truly sorry we do not have the capacity to fund every nonprofit that is strengthening the LGBTQ community. We suggest that you take a look at our additional funding resources to see other funders who may support your work. If you want to talk about any of these resources, feel free to call a staff member: 206.323.3318 or 800.735.7287 (toll free). We will continue to communicate with you and the broader community as our funding changes.

My organization also applies to a Pride Foundation Regional Community. Does this change affect that funding?

No. If your organization currently applies to Pride Foundation Clark County, Northwest Washington, or Pierce County you are welcome to apply to them again when their cycle opens, whether you were invited to the Fall 2009 Northwest Grants Cycle or not. You can always see which grant cycles are open by consulting our website.

If my organization is invited to apply for funding does that mean we are guaranteed funding by Pride Foundation?

No. The grants process will still be competitive, even if you are invited to apply.

If you have other grants questions?

Please contact the Grants Program Director, Jeff Hedgepeth, at 206.323.3318 or 1.800.735.7387.
