In the Meadow with Pride
I have learned so much working for LGBT equality in my community especially that you have to take time to celebrate, have fun and bring people together. That is why my husband Robert and I hosted a fun gathering in August at our home in Sedro-Woolley, so as a community we could recognize the work we are doing with the help of Pride Foundation and Skagit PFLAG.

Since it began formally organizing in Whatcom & Skagit counties, Pride Foundation has invested close to $70,000 in local programs and scholars. I am happy to serve on their board of directors and am proud of the many good things Pride Foundation is funding in this region, including: youth programs and gay / straight alliances at the High School, the annual Bellingham Pride Event, and essential and emotional support for people living with AIDS or HIV. Together these projects, activists and students are working to make our towns and neighborhoods more welcoming and our schools safer.
The celebration, “Sunday in the Meadow with Pride” welcomed 50 donors, Pride

Foundation members and staff, grant recipients and scholarship recipients to a delightful feast with music provided by Auntie Bijou- songs by Steven Sondheim- and other touches taken from the Sondheim musical Sunday in the Park with George. Robert and I, and many others, were dressed like characters stepping out of Seurat’s painting, “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.” The decorations were done by David Bricka and the food – which included-brie en croute, pan bagnat and madeleines -was prepared by Michael Bonacci.
Pride Foundation/ Whatcom-Skagit is pleased to announce that representatives from Snohomish County will now serve on the Regional Committee, and the Foundation is delighted to announce that Michael Bonacci will be working part-time as a community organizer in this area.

I invite you to join the fun and find out how you can get involved in creating LGBT equality in Whatcom, Skagit and Snohomish counties.
Special thanks to Annie Van Avery for all the great photos.
