Nominate a Pierce County Leader Today

Nominations for Pride Foundation/Pierce County’s Community Awards are due this Friday, June 12th. Full details on nominating a community leader are below or available by downloading the nomination form.

In its third year, Pride Foundation/Pierce County’s LGBTQA Community Awards are held as part of Tacoma’s Pride Week. They honor individuals and organizations whose efforts have had a positive effect on the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and allied community of Pierce County.

This year’s event will be held in the Rainier Room of Freighthouse Square 2501 East D Street Tacoma, WA 98421 on Friday, July 10th at 6:00pm – the night before Out in the Park! The event is free and open to the public.

The categories of the LGBTQA Community Awards are as follows:

Sapphire Award – Given to a youth organizer for service to the LGBTQA youth community of Pierce County. This award is open to youth ages 14-23.

Pearl Award – Given to an individual for service to the LGBTQA community of Pierce County, particularly service rendered in the past year.

Emerald Award – Given to an organization for service to the LGBTQA community of Pierce County, particularly service rendered in the past year.

Ruby Award – Given to an individual who is not part of the LGBTQA population, or an organization that’s focus is not primarily LGBTQA, but whose actions have directly benefited said community, may be awarded for service in the past year, or for service rendered over an extended period of time.

Diamond Hall of Fame Award – Given to an individual for consistent and exemplary service to the LGBT community of Pierce County. This award is given for service rendered over a considerable length of time.

Anyone can submit a nomination by submitting the following.
o The name and phone number of the person making the nomination
o The name of the group or individual being nominated and the award category in which they are being nominated. In addition, the nominator should explain why they believe this group or individual should receive the award in 500 words or less.
o Nominations may be emailed to: [email protected] or c. dean jackson, Pride Foundation staff.
