I believe I qualify for more than one of the scholarships, do I need to fill out more than one application?
No. While Pride Foundation and GSBA have 40 different types of scholarships, students only need to fill out the application once (sending 1 original and 7 copies) – we will then determine for which scholarships you may qualify. Students may receive more than one type of scholarship in the same year.
How much is the average award amount?
The minimum scholarship amount is $500 and our largest scholarship is $10,000. Since students may be awarded more than one scholarship totals vary. The average amount award per recipient was over $2000 last year.
May I use UNOFFICIAL transcripts?
Yes.
Do my letters of reference need to be sealed?
No.
I am straight, may I apply for scholarships?
Most of our scholarships are open to all persons regardless of sexuality. We believe that straight “allies” have a tremendous role to play in moving our society towards one of equality and understanding, thus we have funded a number of straight students over the years and will continue to do so. Do your scholarships cover community colleges, trade schools or graduate schools?
Yes. Most of our scholarships cover any post-secondary accredited school.
If I am awarded a scholarship, does the money come directly to me?
No. If you are awarded a scholarship, the check(s) will be made out to your school and credited to your student account. Funds may only be used for items that are charged to your student account such as tuition and fees and, in some cases, books and supplies and on-campus room and board (depending on the school).
I want to go to school outside of the U.S., can I still apply?
Yes, as long as the school is an accredited educational institution it can be outside the U.S.
I am not an “official resident” of one of the 5 states that you cover (WA, OR, ID, MT, AK) – but I do live and go to school in one of those states, may I apply?
If you have been living in one of our 5 states (WA, OR, ID, MT, AK) for at least one year then we consider you a resident for our scholarship program’s purposes.
I can’t be in Seattle on the day of the interviews – am I out of luck?
No. While it is best to interview in person, we can do a phone interview if there is no way you can make it to Seattle that day.
How strict are you on the due date?
To be fair to all applicants, we are very strict on the due date.
How will I know if you received my application?
We will notify you by e-mail unless you do not have an e-mail address in which case we will mail you a postcard. Please allow up to 3 weeks for notification.
When will I be notified if I have received a scholarship?
You will be notified by early April 2006 confirming whether you have, or have not, been selected for the interview stage of the process. We notify those interviewed as to whether they have received a scholarship in late April/early May.
