Queer Youth Initiative Work Continues
It’s about 8:30 pm on Sunday night and I just arrived home from the third of six convenings with Pride Foundation’s Queer Youth Initiative, graciously hosted by Vista Youth Center in Kennewick, WA. The twenty or so participants included volunteers, board members, and staff of six LGBTQ youth centers in Washington and Oregon.

That's me, in the middle, with my colleagues from Oasis
The topic this weekend was Financial Fun-damentals, skillfully facilitated by TACS. To help launch us forward, TACS gave us a financial toolbox with the means to understand, predict and tell the financial stories of our youth centers. I can’t wait to put my new skills into practice here at Oasis Youth Center. The best part is that I now have a whole group of colleagues to call on if I have questions, get stuck, or just need to brainstorm about next steps.
After the day-long course, our whole group headed to dinner to talk about the challenges and joys of operating LGBTQ youth centers in rural, suburban and urban communities. What amazing food for thought. At 8:30 this morning, we were all together again, this time to present our capacity-building projects to the full group.

Who says financials can't be fun?
From Walla Walla to Portland and from Tacoma to Kennewick, I am learning that we have so much more in common than we realize. The Queer Youth Initiative is nothing short of a dream come true. Thank you to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for funding this program and to Pride Foundation. With your support, we left Kennewick bigger than our individual organizations: we are part of a movement.
