Straight Not Narrow: Ally underwrites Missoula event
on February 17th, 2011 at 1:39 pm
Jim Royan of Missoula spends his free time hunting at his family ranch in northeastern Montana and volunteering for the local Republican Party. At first glance, he’s perhaps not a man one would assume supports equal rights for the LGBTQ community. But straight allies come from all walks of life, and Jim is no exception.
Jim has been a friend of mine since we connected through our mutual passion for YWCA Missoula’s work to empower women, but I was truly moved when he offered last week to donate the catering costs of the upcoming Missoula Meet & Greet event.
“I believe in neighbors helping neighbors, and the gay and lesbian community is a big part of what makes Missoula great,” Jim told me by way of explanation.
The event will be held Wednesday, Feb. 23 , 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., at the Loft, a private social club of which he is a member.
Part of Pride Foundation’s mission is to inspire a culture of philanthropy, and Jim is a philanthropist in the truest sense of the word. He gives of his time, talents and treasure, and by doing so, inspires countless others to be generous however they can.
Thank you, Jim, for helping Pride Foundation reach even more Montanans with our scholarships, grants, and strengthen the LGBTQ equality movement in the Pacific Northwest!
