January 3 Cool Things: Inspiration in this Momenton January 26th, 2017 at 1:03 pm
For many of us, this new year has been fraught with worry about what’s ahead. In moments like these, it is even more important that we pause to celebrate examples of our unity and our success. Here are three recent accomplishments that your support made possible:
- On January 9, the Helena City Commission voted 3-2 to guarantee equal protections to people regardless of their gender identity/expression by removing gender-restrictive language from the original 2012 Nondiscrimination Ordinance.
- The ACLU of Idaho held its third annual Activist Academy, supported in part by Pride Foundation grant funds. The training brought 130 people to Idaho’s capitol (more than twice the attendance of last year’s academy) to build their engagement in the political process.
- On January 13, the Department of Housing & Urban Development announced $33 million in funding to ten communities to participate in the Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP)—a multi-year program that will help communities strengthen systems intended to end youth homelessness. Of the 130 communities that submitted applications, we are thrilled to announce that Seattle and Anchorage were two of the 10 selected communities!
Thank you for your passion and enduring commitment. It is reassuring as always to have you standing with us as we go forward.
