Caryn Brooks (just “Brooks” to many who know her…except for her family, because that would be weird) is a Portlander by way of Philadelphia and still has the attitude to prove it. Her career has spanned both journalism and politics and now she proudly calls herself a civil servant. After editorial stints at places such as The Associated Press, Time, and Willamette Week, Brooks played the role of Communications Director for former Portland Mayor Sam Adams…who played the role of Assistant to the Mayor on Portlandia. She currently works as Policy and Communications Program Coordinator at City of Portland in the fire department.
In 2013, Brooks joined the Equity Foundation board to help the organization in its mission to fund equality. She participated in Equity Foundation’s plan to merge with Pride Foundation and assisted with the transition. She joined the Pride Foundation board after the merger and is excited to carry forward the positive difference Equity Foundation has made in the area’s LGBTQ community.
Free time activities include stand-up comedy stints, playing softball, bicycle riding, driving around town in her Subaru, walking her rascally mutt Duchess, and wondering how she got to be such a stereotype.
